India’s “Transformative Moment” – Modi, the Economy & Aerospace

The landslide election victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi  reflected widespread discontent with India’s flagging economic performance and shrinking job opportunities. The new government has pledged more “business friendly” policies,  raising optimistic expectations for economic policy liberalization, market reform, and investment trends.

Included in reforms is the easing regulation of the Indian aviation market. This matters to the aerospace industry, with air travel in India and South Asia expected to grow 8.3 percent per year over the next 20 years according to a market outlook by Boeing.

These policy changes are important to Washington state, which counts India as its 10th largest export customer. How might new leadership in the country impact our trade with India and the aerospace industry?
