In an increasingly interconnected economy, the ability to move goods reliably and quickly is essential for both consumers and businesses. Unfortunately, freight bottlenecks and other forms of congestion cost U.S. businesses about $200 billion a year due to the increased price to move goods. Improving freight mobility is particularly important for Washington state; as a gateway to and from the global economy, our international competitiveness depends on our ability to efficiently transport goods through our ports to the rest of the state, country and world.
Improving our freight networks will allow us to keep pace with rapid economic growth and help us attract more employers who want to take advantage of our convenient access to and from the rest of the world.
